This workshop is held for new-coming FNBE students. As learning in the Foundation of Natural & Built Environments is entirely different from learning in high school, such as SPM or UEC in terms of studying methods, syllabus, usage of creativity, interaction with tutors et cetera, students tend to encounter a severe 'culture shock' when pursuing their studies in FNBE. The main purpose of this event is to let newcomers to FNBE understand what is it like to study in FNBE through a seminar, interactive activities and a mentor advice session by seniors who underwent FNBE.

The objective of this event is to make newcomers understand the fundamentals of FNBE, know what to anticipate for their following semesters and thus, make themselves equipped with skills to brace for the challenges up ahead. Experiences are shared by mentors who finished FNBE so that newcomers will have a clear picture of what FNBE is all about and also know the right and relatively revolutionary ways of studying in FNBE.

Ms Delliya selected 1o TOP STUDENTS to assist in the mentor advice session.

As expected, many newcomers were clueless about FNBE and what is ahead of them, pretty much like ourselves last year. As this is an inaugural event, I felt that the juniors are very lucky as they have this event to assist them in the form of briefing them what is going on and what are the new methods of learning in FNBE as traditional forms of studying are relatively useless in this course. Through this event, the newcomers are far more well prepared for FNBE as they are equipped with a better idea on how to deal with this course.

This workshop was a great chance for me to meet new people and know the juniors (pretty much like an orientation event) and I expanded my network of friends. Being a mentor, I shared my experiences about my life in FNBE, showed the projects I had worked on and gave tips about creating better assignment outcomes. This was a valuable experience for me as I performed the role as an educator by teaching the newcomers based on what I had learnt or known. It gave me the feel of what is it like to be a lecturer and I enjoyed it very much.

During the session, I applied the communication skills I had learnt to make sure that my messages were delivered effectively and accurately to the newcomers. I hope that they fully utilized what they learnt in this workshop in their assignments as these knowledge makes foundation life easier to cope with.

As this is the third time this workshop was held, we had experience on organizing this workshop. Furthermore, I am able to share more experiences than the two previous workshops as I had proceeded further in my architectural studies.
