tales of three cities

project 2a: journal on urban sketches & photographs

This is a location based study to establish relationships and roles of urban design elements, especially on urban structuring principles.

My site is the journey between Central Market and Petaling Street in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

The spatial form of the city is documented to note the key attributes that contributes to its urban form. In the form of a collection of thoughts, experiences and evidences that could offer people the memory of the place, I captured photographs and did rough instinctive sketches related to both tangible and intangible qualities of the site, narrating my perspicacity and experience of being immersed into a dynamic cityscape.

Upon completion, the journey trained us to be increasingly observant about the details around us and become more sensitive towards the sensual experiences they provide. The exploration of the spaces discovered gave us further insight on the relationship between form, their aspects of use and cultural meaning.

The cacophony of sounds in the bazaar comprises the human clamour and the whiff of aroma from food vendors. The blend of incessant frying of noodles, pungent aroma of spicy dishes and fishy smell emanating from the wet market selling live poultry, Petaling Street is undoubtedly endowed with a distinctness of its own.
