preliminary studies: Jalan TAR

The Preliminary Studies is a preparatory assignment that focuses on investigating basic notions of the city. This assignment aims to firstly introduce students to the basics in urban design and its relation to architecture, and secondly, studying the programmatic function, societal role and spatial layout of a community library and architectural responses for urban infills.

This project consists of three components: Site Documentation, Site Analysis, and Precedent Studies. The Site Documentation and Site Analysis equips us with a firm understanding of the given site while the Precedent Studies will provide an insight into architectural responses for designing an urban infill community library. The outcome of the Preliminary Studies includes the production of site documentation materials, a comprehensive analysis of the site, and a detailed case study of a relevant community library.

Tropical Asian cities are formed by multiple layered entities that contribute to its diversity and sense of segregation between overlapping districts. This assignment gave us an insight on the development of an urban city through time.

As I attended a study trip to Bali with Veritas Architects, I was absent on the presentation day itself.
