architecture portfolio

As a ‘Curator’ of our own projects, we are required to reconcile our projects within the academic programme (must be related to architecture) to represent our personal direction and design approach.

By manifesting this physical portfolio, my ability to understand and exercise discernment in the selection process of materials improved. The production of the personal portfolio trained my skills in strategizing and organizing necessary resources or files.

personal design statement

Stoical, appreciates nature and the arts. Disapprobation to things mainstream, allergic to everything routine.

Me as a kid in the 2000s: drawing maps of imaginary worlds, conceptualizing fictional ecological systems, contemplating my own existence, staring blankly into objects I find aesthetically appealing. Just being a peculiar boy.

My father is a civil and structural engineer while my mother is an art stream teacher. This makes sense to how my mind works as I am the result of the marriage of the Left Brain (the analytical and logical) and the Right Brain (the creative, abstract and impulsive) and architecture requires a collaboration between the both. Things that are beautiful yet functional are synthesized based on this collaboration.

Ever since young, I am always an indecisive person. I have preferences, lots and lots of them and I am driven to achieve them all. I am interested in history, I am interested in visual arts, I am interested in designing, I am interested in geography, I am interested in culture, I am interested in biology, I am interested in technological advancements… but is there a specific profession or career I can dive deep into? Being a jack of all trades but master of none, I took interest in architecture as I believed that it is the profession that can offer me a solution by making my insatiable desire of knowing practical. Architects are passionate about learning and are always curious.

Actively joining competitions during high school, I take pride in the process and thoroughly enjoy each phase, constantly going back and forth between thinking, the details and the bigger picture of the projects. Task completions are orgasmic. My choice of pursuing architecture was cemented when I won the First Prize for my school in Taylor’s University Built Environment Explained Competition 2013.

Thus, I embarked on this tumultuous journey, learning about the nuts and bolts that are crucial to a building design. My interest in plants and nature’s biology drove me to a direction where I attempt to resurrect nature in my designs. I find delight in giving back to man and nature soft, organic elements that otherwise will be cocooned and oppressed. Realms that ignite interest yet full of humility towards nature are what I love to create, returning lost nature from the wrath of urbanization.
