eco campaign 2015 eco ideas proposal competition
first runner-up
19 June 2015
In this varsity-level competition, participants from all schools present their ideas on ways to decreasing carbon-emission, urban heat island effect and other negative impacts on our environment through ways of waste management, innovative technology or any other methods.
Our team's idea is to revolutionize residential housing plans by redirecting waste from housing units to an urban farming zone. Agriculture with close proximity to the living areas produces organic food back to the residents. This decreases the demand of transportation of food from other places and fully utilize waste as fertilizer, thus making residential houses more self-sustainable.

Well-designed buildings do not need mechanical heating or cooling. Buildings that are passively designed take advantage of natural climate to maintain thermal comfort of its users.
A building is chosen so that we can propose on multiple ways to improve its thermal comfort. Existing conditions were recorded and analyzed before proceeding to the proposal.
For our team, a double-storey terrace house located at 22, Jalan BK 4/3, Bandar Kinrara, Puchong is chosen.

From the observation and data collection, it is concluded that the building is not well ventilated. Ceilings and brick walls block heat from escaping the house. Parts of its interior do not receive adequate daylight. As the house faces west, it receives a lot of heat during the afternoon. The heat remains stagnant in the house at night, making it uncomfortable.
